Black Panther exhibition - Emory Douglas and the art of revolution (Urbis Manchester)

This was an exhibition down at the Urbis in Manchester earlier this year. This was my first introduction to the revolutionary work of Emory Douglas which left me speechless. The exhibition was very interactive and had sections for viewers to leave their opinions on the current affairs evolving equality today. The entire scale of the exhibition was impressive in it's self with a wide range of photographs covering entire walls within the exhibition. The exhibition was visually graphic in areas which created a sens of tension and importance to Emory Douglase's work within the revolution. I felt that the combination of illustrations and photo montage create an interesting composition. One other aspect that created another dimension through the exhibition was the choice of lighting. The room that the exhibition was in was fairly dark but the use of spot lights directed a natural focal point for the consumer which worked well in this exhibition. America being in the situation it was at the time I visited the exhibition with the whole elections it was interesting to see the work of a designer which bought so much controversy on a similar subject back in seventies.

Here are some photographs that I took at the exhibition:
