Grid Systems in Graphic Design - Josef Muller-Brockmann

This book is over looked as being the holly bible of grid design. If this is the case then in my opinion it should be the bible of graphic design. After all weather we like to admit it or not under any design discipline we will all need to develop an understanding of the grid at some point in our career. I'm proud owner of this book, it's hard to put down because I have never come across so much information in only 172 pages. A must have for any modernist designer.

"The use of grid system implies :
  • The will to systematize, to clarify
  • The will to penetrate to the essentials, to concentrate
  • The will to cultivate objectivity instead of subjectivity
  • The will to rationalize the creative and technical production processes
  • The will to interrogate elements of colour, form and material
  • The will to achieve architectural dominion over surface and space
  • The will to adopt a positive, forward looking attitude
  • The recognition of the importance of education and the effect of work devised in a constructive and creative spirit"
